Marketing Options for Realtors

Is your money better spent on the local realtor board, or on marketing? While your local realtor board can provide you with many good options to help advance your selling, marketing firms can also do much to help you get your name out there. Next, we will explore the merits of each of these two options and how to go about making the decision that is right for you.

Local realtor boards have been helping realtors expand their businesses since they first started in the post-war housing boom of the 1940s. They exist to provide the realtors with a common voice and resources to use. The local realtor board can help get your name into local trade magazines and home listing publications. These are seen by thousands of people in your local area each day and can be a big part of getting your name out there to potential customers. Many people, when looking for a realtor to help them buy or sell a home, turn to these publications to help them find a realtor. There are some downsides to this, however, and some people find the names in these publications to be untrustworthy and prefer to go on the recommendations of friends and colleagues instead. Another blow to these types of publications is the growing use of the internet for finding realtors. Many people in the housing market turn to review sites such as Angie’s List to find realtors that have good reviews as well.

Doing your own marketing has its own plus and drawbacks too. By doing your own marketing you are in control of how and where your name gets put out there for potential clients to see. Instead of being stuck with the publications of old, you can pursue a wide range of advertisement venues. Television and radio show great success in getting your name to potential clients and help build a sense a trust since the customer is hearing your voice instead of just seeing an emotionless photo in a pamphlet. Another popular method of advertisement is the use of billboards located in areas you are selling in. These are very effective but can be quite costly compared to other methods. If you still prefer to go the route of having your name in print you can choose to advertise in local papers as well. While you can get your face to a much broader audience by spending your money on marketing, you do get less bang for your buck than with local board publications.
