How to Speed Up Your Personal Growth and Achieve Your Goals Faster

Do you want to live life on your own terms? A big part of living life on your own terms is achieving your goals. Whether your goals are related to your lifestyle choices, your fitness objectives, or a business you want to start, you probably have a general idea of what you want to achieve, but either you’re not sure how to get there, or you’re stuck working too hard at it and getting nowhere.

Research Alternative Routes to Get to Where You Want to Go

You might already be clear on what you want. You may want to travel, or you may want a beautiful house, fun adventures, or the means to eat out whenever you want. You need to get extremely clear about what it is you are truly seeking because if you’re not, you might be attempting to achieve your goals in a long, roundabout way. What is meant by this? If your goal is to travel more often, for example, and you have a specific destination in mind, you will naturally also want a high-paying job that offers benefits and vacation time. But, how long will it take to get to that point in your life? You might have to go to school for a few years, apply for jobs, and slowly work your way up, eventually getting your dream job. Then, you’ll have to work there for a few years to rack up all those vacation days you’ll need to go traveling. That is a very long, slow way to achieve your goals. Instead of spending years going down a traditional route, what if instead, you learned one skill that you could apply as a freelancer? Perhaps you could become a better writer, teach yourself how to design websites, or learn how to manage social media accounts. You can then start bidding for jobs on freelance websites, and within a few months, after you learn your skill, you may have enough clients to support yourself as you do work from anywhere in the world. The point here is about one route versus another. Being clear about what you want sometimes involves brainstorming creative ways to get there.

Focus on One Goal at a Time

Once you get clear about what you want, focus on that goal and only that goal. You may be motivated to achieve a variety of goals, but, if you have too many projects on your plate, it will take you a long time to go the whole stretch. If instead of spreading yourself so thin, you simply focused on one goal that is most important to you, you will achieve that goal exponentially faster. Once you achieve that goal, you can piggyback the inspiration and empowerment of your success to your next goal. You’ll stay a lot more motivated this way because you’ll be moving toward your goal faster, you’ll be less distracted, and you’ll have a lot more energy, money, and time to devote to one goal at a time.

Stop Making Excuses

Every time you complain or make an excuse, you fall into the trap of reinforcing a victim mentality. A natural result of this type of thinking is demotivation. Instead, you should be harnessing the energy that accompanies the feeling of empowerment, using it to achieve your goals. Feeling stuck, on the other hand, limits your beliefs, your energy, and your outlook on what you think you can achieve.

Seek a Mentor

Many people think that this step doesn’t apply to them. When you look at people who have achieved amazing goals, however, such as professional athletes, you’ll notice that most of the time, they have a coach who trains with them on a daily or at least a weekly basis. Successful athletes, musicians, and entrepreneurs usually have someone who is pushing, teaching, and helping them succeed. It may not occur to you that someone else may know more than you, or that he or she may be able to mentor you. Don’t fall into the trap of assuming you know what you’re doing 100 percent of the time. You may find yourself struggling in situations that you believe you need to work harder at. Instead of putting in countless hours in pursuit of a goal that may or may not pan out, identify a mentor who can offer you insights on how to achieve your goals in a faster, more creative manner.

Work Harder

If you watch television on a regular basis, you are not probably working as hard as you could be. If you have a goal that you want to achieve, you need to identify areas in your life that are time wasters. You may contend that you are in the habit of doing a certain activity, that your activities are normal, or that you need time to decompress. If your goal is something that you aspire to, however, then you need to put in the work, and you need to stop wasting time on all extraneous activities. It’s not that you can’t use your time to not have any fun at all. You may find yourself addicted to a habit that you don’t particularly enjoy, such as watching television, that sucks up a lot of your time. Fun with friends, eating out, and consuming media should be viewed as an occasional treat, not as part of your regular routine.

At the end of the day, you must decide how badly you want to achieve your goals. The personal satisfaction involved in staying motivated is an experience anyone with the right mindset can attain.
